Thoughts/Questions September 27, 2009

just some thoughts/questions of how the gameplay/setting is going to look like:
- what happens when the “wall player” hits the edge of the screen? will they just come out of the other respective side? or will they die?
- if the player is allowed to go through the edges of the screen. possibly have the edges as walls with holes in them, similar to the actual wall they are creating with holes.
- crops grow randomly? crops are already set on the map?
- rabbit and wall have same speed?
- bonus? such as, once the rabbit has collected x amount of crops. will the rabbit be allowed to do special moves? e.g. speed up for specific time? wall is stopped for specific time? rabbit is invincible for specific time? rabbit is allowed to walk through and break walls?
- when we say multiplayer. does that mean we can have multiple walls and rabbits? or multiple walls with one rabbit? or isit a simple wall and rabbit game?
- rabbit will be in top down view correct?
- how do we reward the player? e.g. for wall. if rabbit hits it. GG. what about rabbit? a scoring system? therefore, for each crop collected, 1 point?
- maybe have the crops timed? so crops will die after x amount of time. if a crop dissapears before a rabbit takes it. the wall player will be awarded 1 point?
- wall and rabbit players switch role after each turn. the addition of both the scores is the final winner?
- turn can end if the wall hits itself. might give punishment? -10 points?
- should we base the game on points or time. or both?
- so if a rabbit can last longer. for every 60 seconds. 10 points accumulated?
- but, i believe it will be unfair system. seems like rabbit is the only role that can obtain many points. maybe find some sort of bonus for the wall player too? although both players will be playing both roles. so kinda evens out? not sure.
- just a question about our wall. will it be all curvy etc? or should we make the wall a wall. i.e. left, right, up and down? however, this will take away the element of “close calls” when the wall circles itself.
that’s all my thoughts for now. let’s get this done yea?
*Updated 13/09* The Pitch – Draft Overview document September 12, 2009

Hey,
Very early draft for the pitch design overview document. I’m guessing that we are going along with the Achtung/Zatacka idea. Anyways, here is some stuff to get started with. Hopefully, you guys can fill it out and make it heaps better (both content and grammar wise) as I am having trouble thinking of what to write at the moment.
*update Sun 13/09*
Completed design overview document (pitch). I’m not sure if we all have to submit, but I’ve submitted the file. So they can just check that submission timestamp. Anyways, it says that the deadline is on Monday 23:59 so we can make changes until then.
Initial Game Idea September 1, 2009

The game idea as of now is:
- Similar to Achtung/Zatacka
- One player controls a wall, just like in achtung
- waller has holes in their walls, just like in achtung
- Another player controls a rabbit, but doesn’t make any type of line
- There are crops scattered around the game space
- rabbit tries to eat as much of the crops as possible
- waller tries to block rabbit and minimise the lose of crops
- there a power-ups, i guess specific to each player (e.g. rabbit can hop)
In terms of story, can still use the ancient Chinese background, but if any one complains we can bring it back to the Australian rabbit proof fence. Although judging from what Adam and I have heard so far, the historical reference isn’t going to be much of a problem. Also, the ideas that the groups I’ve heard so far seem pretty ambitious and more complex than our current idea and Malcolm felt that they probably won’t get fully completed. It’s something to take note of.
There were a few ideas and such tossed around, but I can’t remember them. So either, if you can, edit this post or create a new post on this blog.
